Industries / Rail
Rail labour, with the competence checks built in.
Book trackside work, check competence, medicals and screening, record the hours, and pay and bill from them.
The checks run when the shift is planned, and the result is stored against the booking.
Every trackside booking checked and recorded.
Our system checks competence, medical, screening and sponsorship before anybody is booked, and keeps the result — so the assurance question is answered before it is asked.
The record still matches a year later
Our system stores who was booked, what they held on the night and who sponsored them, against the booking itself. When somebody asks about a shift from last spring, you are reading a record rather than reconstructing one.
Fatigue worked out for you
Our software checks shift length, rest between turns, consecutive turns and the rolling seven and fourteen-day totals automatically when the turn is planned. A turn that would breach is stopped there, which saves you finding out after it has been worked.
Know which suppliers can sponsor
You can see which of your suppliers hold sponsor status and for what, before you place the work. It saves awarding a package to an agency that cannot put people trackside.
One assurance record across every supplier.
Your client will ask you about everybody on the possession, not only your own people. Our system keeps competence and sponsorship for the whole supply chain in one place.
Route work down without losing the pictureIn build
You can pass work to another agency and keep the competence picture for the whole contract. When your client asks, you can answer, rather than ringing your subcontractor first.
See a lapsing medical two tiers downIn build
You can see where a medical or a screen is about to expire across every supplier, without seeing what any of them charge. That gives you time to close a gap that would otherwise become yours on the night.
Premiums flow into the self-billIn build
Nights, travel and lodge come through from the same approved hours you invoiced. You are not working out unsocial hours twice, once for the client and once for the supplier.
Track every card, medical and screen in one list.
Rail costs you money before anybody works an hour. Our system shows you who is supplyable now and who will not be next month, so none of that spend goes to waste.
Renewals while you can still act on them
Competences, medicals and screens all expire on their own dates, and our system puts them in one list sorted by what goes first. You get to book the renewal instead of losing the shift.
Sponsorship you can keep on top of
Our system holds who you sponsor and for what, against the worker, and checks it whenever they are booked. It saves keeping it in a spreadsheet only one person in the office really understands.
Price nights and lodge once
Night, weekend and bank holiday rates, travel and lodge all sit on the rate card and feed both the payslip and the invoice. One calculation, so the two cannot disagree.
What we check in rail
Competence, medical and screening together
A competence is only usable if the medical and the drugs and alcohol screen are also in date. All three are checked.
Sponsorship
Some competences require the agency to hold sponsor status. The platform shows which agencies can supply which work.
Fatigue limits
Shift length, rest between turns, consecutive shifts and rolling seven and fourteen-day totals. A turn that breaks a limit is stopped before it is booked.
The schemes, and how each card gets checked
Set up already, with the awarding body and the way each card is checked.
- Checked automatically
Sentinel (NSAR)
The identity and competence scheme for anyone working on or near Network Rail infrastructure. Holds competences, medical and drugs-and-alcohol status against one card.
- Checked and recorded
CITB
Site Safety Plus — the supervisor and manager courses, and the touchstone health, safety and environment test.
And these, added as data
Added during setup, and checked the same way as the ones above.
- Network Rail sponsorship — A worker cannot hold a card without a sponsor standing behind it.
- OLEC — Overhead line equipment competences, by level.
Roles we set up most often
Requirements attach to the role, so the check runs on every booking. Your own list is set up during onboarding.
- Trackside operative
- Personal Track Safety, a current medical, drugs and alcohol in date, and live sponsorship.
- Controller of Site Safety
- PTS plus the COSS competence, for setting up and holding a safe system of work for a group.
- Engineering supervisor
- The ES competence, for taking charge of a worksite inside a possession.
- Safe work leader
- Network Rail's planning and leadership competence, where the scheme is in use.
- Lookout and site warden
- The lookout competence, and the specific briefing for that site and system of work.
- Machine and crane controller
- The controller competence for on-track plant or lifting, on top of PTS.
- Points operator, hand signaller
- The competence for that role, and PTS.
- Overhead line operative
- The OLEC level the work calls for, plus PTS and the medical.
We will show you this working
We can show you rail running end to end: a shift created, a card checked, a booking refused, hours approved, and the payslip and invoice that follow.
Send us your requirements
Send us the cards and checks your rail sites ask for. We will set them up in Bonim and show you the checks running.
